Read more. share: f t Today, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee advanced H.R. 4180 the Fraud Reduction and Analytics Act of 2015, bipartisan legislation introduced by Government Operations Subcommittee Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Ranking Member Gerry Connolly (D-VA) to combat fraud at federal agencies and save American taxpayer dollars.The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has reported nearly $125 billion in improper payments just last year, much of which is the result of individuals deliberately defrauding federal agencies. The Fraud Reduction and Analytics Act of 2015 would require the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Comptroller General to establish government-wide guidelines for agencies to monitor, detect, and combat fraud in real-time, rather than relying on end-of-year audits.The bill also calls for the creation of a working group tasked with building multi-agency data channels to fight fraud with the power of big data.“The fight against fraud and improper payments is a long-standing challenge transcending Presidential administrations and affecting all federal agencies,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee for Government Operations. “Our committee has investigated this issue in-depth, and when it comes to rooting out fraud, we would be wise to heed Benjamin Franklin’s famous axiom that, ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.’”“Detecting, preventing, and eliminating fraud within our federal agencies is an important bipartisan issue that will save taxpayer dollars.
