Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) cosponsored H.R. 4941, the bipartisan Veteran Employment Transition (VET) Act, to help veterans identify employment opportunities during their transition to civilian life. The bill was introduced by Rep. Andy Kim (D-New Jersey). Many veterans are not aware of the various training and employment programs available to them. Currently, the Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans' Administration (VA) do not have the capabilities to provide veterans with employment assistance, whereas veteran service organizations (VSOs) are already engaged in veteran outreach. This bill would allow the DoD to share data with qualified organizations such as the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, enhancing their ability to assist and engage with returning veterans. Rep. Cook said, Veterans who serve our country honorably shouldn't struggle to find employment upon returning home. This legislation would provide crucial improvements to veterans' employment outreach programs across the country. It's important that we do all we can to support organizations that strive every day to support our veterans. I thank Congressman Kim for his leadership on this issue and look forward to working with him to get this bill passed.
