Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $551,326 Emergency Relief (ER) Grant to help rebuild and repair roads and highways that were damaged as a result of the July 2019 earthquakes near Trona and Ridgecrest. The U.S. Department of Transportation's ER program, administered by the Federal Highway Administration, reimburses states, territories, federal land management agencies, and tribal governments for eligible expenses associated with the reconstruction or replacement of damaged transportation infrastructure from natural disasters or other emergency situations. The grant for earthquake related infrastructure repairs is part of a larger package of $64 million for California to help make repairs to roads and bridges damaged by fires, floods, and other natural disasters. Rep. Cook said, I'm pleased that the administration is providing this critical funding to help rebuild our damaged infrastructure. Last year's earthquakes took a great toll on Trona, damaging roads and other transportation infrastructure that residents depend on for daily travel. I thank Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and the administration for their efforts to help our communities recover. A member of the House Natural Resources and Armed Services Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.
