Paul Cook announced that he is cosponsoring HR 1766, the College Transparency Act. The bipartisan bill promotes greater transparency in student outcomes within our postsecondary education system. Under current law, the federal government cannot collect and report accurate data on student outcomes at colleges and universities in the US. Without this information, students and families are not empowered to make well-informed choices about their education. Additionally, current law prevents policymakers and institutions from crafting evidence-based policies to help students succeed. This legislation overturns the ban on student-level data collection in the higher education system. It reforms and improves the current system to provide accurate, timely, and high-quality aggregate data for students and families, policymakers, institutions, and businesses to allow them to find answers to key questions about student access and success in a user-friendly, transparent way. Rep. Cook said, It's important that parents and students have access to clear information on universities and colleges, so that they can make responsible decisions about their higher education choices. This commonsense bipartisan bill will make it much easier for families to get the information they need to make enrollment decisions. I look forward to seeing this bill move forward in the House. A member of the House Natural Resources and Armed Services Committees, Cook is the Republican Leader on the House Natural Resources Indigenous Peoples of America Subcommittee. He served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.
