"Democrats pushed for higher stimulus during months of negotiations because it was the right thing to do. Today, we acted to help our communities get through these challenging times. I'm pleased the President supports it." The bill passed with well more than the necessary two-thirds bipartisan majority of 275 votes, with 44 Republicans joining 231 Democrats. Rep. Costa also voted to override President Trump's veto of the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act: "Congress has enacted a bipartisan defense authorization bill for 60 years in a row to ensure the military gets the support it needs," Costa said. "I am proud to vote to override the President's veto, which showed a complete disregard to our troops. This bill is essential because it gives service members a raise, improves healthcare for veterans, and ensures the U.S. military remains the strongest in the world."
