John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and longtime civil rights activist. Corson, chairman of the reorganizing committee of the Pottstown Branch NAACP, was invited to Washington by U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello, who represents parts of Montgomery and Berks counties. Costello extended the invitation to Corson and his wife, Paula, to attend a ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which outlawed slavery. "Prior to that, President Lincoln had written the Emancipation Proclamation, but many of the Southern states were ignoring that," Corson said in a phone interview.
