The partisan 2017 tax bill capped the deduction at $10,000, causing many homeowners in Connecticut's Second Congressional District to face significant increases in their federal tax bills. The lopsided tax overhaul passed by the previous House majority in 2017 was a historic mistake, said Congressman Courtney. The plan benefited wealthy Americans and corporations by a longshot, at the direct expense of working and middle-class families in part by capping the State and Local Tax Deduction at $10,000, which hurt eastern Connecticut homeowners already struggling to make ends meet, and punished state and local communities that are working to provide high-quality public schools and public safety to their citizens. H.R. 5377 temporarily reduces, and then outright eliminates the cap on SALT deductions, and that's why it's supported by our public school teachers, fire fighters, police officers.
