Rep. Craig asked for constituent feedback ahead of the visits and received hundreds of responses from constituents in Eagan and Prior Lake who continue to experience inconsistent mail service. According to the USPS Inspector General, the Minnesota-North Dakota USPS Region had the third worst service score in the country during FY23 Q2, which is January-March of this year. Today, Rep. Craig was assured by regional USPS management that increasing service levels is a priority and that Prior Lake is stable and Eagan is improving. Officials continue to insist that Minnesotans should receive their mail every day. “My visits today offered insight into USPS operations, but I won’t stop pushing this issue until Minnesotans get their mail on time,” said Rep. Craig. “I will continue to do everything I can to support the postal workers and letter carriers in our area and hold USPS accountable.” USPS officials stated that in certain areas of the congressional district, workforce has been an issue. Current workers are being mandated to work six days and 50-70 hours a week to try and keep up. For example, with an estimated 20 open positions, the Eagan Post Office is understaffed, and postal workers have been reassigned to help in the short term. Right now, USPS is hiring both for full and part-time staff – and local leadership is planning to bring a Hiring Hub to the Second District to speed up hiring. Responses to Rep. Craig’s survey included numerous cases of lost or delayed mail and her office will be working on those specific issues with USPS leadership. In addition, Rep. Craig will continue to promote job fairs in the district, as well as explore legislation that could speed up the amount of time it takes of make an offer to onboarding of new staff. Rep.
