The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Police departments in the Second District are able to use the grant funds to purchase equipment vital to keeping local communities safe. "It's critical that our local police departments have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. I'm pleased that the Department of Justice has awarded these funds to several local police departments in the Second District – who can now expand their efforts to keep our communities safe and secure," said Representative Craig. "In Congress, I'll keep working hard to secure funding for Minnesota law enforcement agencies so that they can stay focused on their jobs – keeping Minnesotans safe." While serving in Congress, Craig has voted several times to increase funding for local police departments. Craig is currently working with several departments in the Second District to secure additional federal grant dollars to increase hiring and improve training programs. The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is named after Officer Edward Byrne, a New York City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1988. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T20:24:51Z
