The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Association’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program. “Ensuring Minnesota’s first responders have everything they need to keep our communities safe and healthy is my top priority,” said Rep. Craig. “These federal dollars will ensure our local fire departments have the necessary staff to build and grow and safely respond to emergency situations. I’ll keep working across the aisle in Congress to help provide our local emergency response agencies with the resources and support they need.” The Lakeville Fire Department will receive $5,561,853 to help hire 15 full-time firefighters. The South Metro Fire Department, which serves South St. Paul, West St. Paul and the surrounding area, will receive $3,361,761 to hire eight additional firefighters. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:43:57Z
