Oftentimes, when wrongdoing or substandard care is uncovered at a VA medical facility, the Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office are charged with completing the investigation. However, bogged down in red tape and government bureaucracy, these investigations frequently take a long time to complete – all while patients are continuing to receive care from these facilities. The Enhancing Veteran Care Act (S. 1266) allows the VA to contract with non-profits that accredit health care organizations to investigate VA medical centers at a much faster pace. “When bad actors or substandard care is discovered at a VA facility, it needs to be fixed yesterday – that’s the sort of urgency our veterans deserve,” said Cramer. “The Enhancing Veteran Care Act delivers on our promise to hold the VA accountable, and I’m pleased to see this bill going to the White House to be made law.” Through Cramer’s work in the House of Representatives, the VA has seen steady improvements to address accountability concerns including hiring practices, health care scheduling practices, and new technologies aimed at improving care for rural areas. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
