Congressman Kevin Cramer told national energy leaders the war on coal is over in remarks at yesterday's Lignite Energy Council Fall Conference in Bismarck. Rolling out a 24-foot long list of anti-coal regulations imposed on the industry in the eight years of the Obama Administration, Cramer said, It is clear President Obama wanted to put you out of business. Fortunately, on January 2017 the war on coal finally ended. During those years, Cramer praised the work of those in the coal industry and the coalitions and alliances they built with other like-minded lawmakers. We fought back because we understood the value of low rates, good-paying jobs and the global competitiveness of low-cost electricity. He cited the Stream Protection Rule as an example of an overreaching regulation he fought against in Congress. In February 2017, the House and Senate passed its repeal using the Congressional Review Act, which President Trump signed. Cramer said President Trump has fulfilled his campaign promise by rolling back 22 existing regulations for every new one issued. In Congress we continue to work on other important legislation to the energy industry. This includes fixing the 45Q tax credit to work for enhanced oil and gas recovery, extending the refined coal tax credit and shaping a resiliency plan that recognizes the value of having electricity 24 hours-a-day seven days a week. He spoke about the importance of the Senate confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Those who oppose him include the radical left who know of his opinions on the overreach of environmental regulations, Cramer said. Every environmental opinion Judge Kavanaugh has issued in the federal court system has been on our side, supporting the energy industry. His environmental opinions have been so good they have been used in rulings issued by the Supreme Court. And because of this support for the energy industry, I am confident he will receive two votes for confirmation by North Dakota's senators. Members of the Lignite Energy Council, which is based in Bismarck, include mining companies, major users that use lignite to generate electricity, synthetic natural gas and other valuable byproducts, and businesses that provide goods and services to the lignite industry. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
