Crawford Reacts to EU Tariff Announcement 11/3/2021 Washington — This week, the United States announced that a deal was reached with the EU to remove 25% retaliatory tariffs on US rice. The EU placed the tariffs on U.S. imports in retaliation to the U.S. implementing Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum to combat China's steel dumping practices. The U.S. agreed to provide a duty-free quota for EU steel and aluminum but will keep the Section 232 tariffs in place for any EU steel or aluminum in excess of the quota in order to maintain some level of protection for US steel and aluminum producers. In response to the announcement, Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) released the following statement. "Manufacturing and agriculture are critical to our national security and play a vital role in keeping local rural economies alive. For far too long our nation's steel producers and farmers have been victims of unfair trade agreements that fail to protect their businesses from bad actors like China.
