Today, Representatives Rick Crawford (AR-01) and Rick Nolan (MN-08) introduced the Century Farms Act. This important bi-partnership piece of legislation encourages and awards century farms. In the U.S., century farms represent 97 percent of all farms, and of those 90 percent represent small family farms. Currently, only 30 states recognize century farms. The Century Farms Act will create a program to recognize farms that have been in continuous operation for 100 years. As a cornerstone for agriculture production, century farms all over the U.S. have continued to contribute greatly to the agriculture industry by producing and sustaining Americas food supply. The families who have maintained their family farm for a century should be recognized for the incredible service they have provided to the agriculture industry, said Crawford. Since the founding of America, family farms have nourished our local communities, bolstered our economy, and allowed our great Nation to flourish, Nolan said. Century farms and the generation of families whose hard work has sustained them deserve to be proudly recognized for their place in that esteemed heritage and for their vital contributions to todays agricultural industry. Representing districts that are populated by farming families, Representatives French Hill (AR-02), Steve Womack (AR-03), and Bruce Westerman (AR-04) are all co-sponsors of the bill. The Natural State is home to 376 Arkansas Century Farms across more than 25 counties.
