At the White House's invitation, Rep. Joe Cunningham and a group of bipartisan House members attended the White House Child Care and Paid Leave Summit. Cunningham participated in a panel on paid leave arranged by Senior Advisor Ivanka Trump with Reps. Colin Allred (D-TX), Ann Wagner (R-MO), Jackie Walorski (R-IN), and Dan Crenshaw (R-TX). Cunningham discussed the need to provide flexibility for working families; his bipartisan legislation that would help alleviate the burden faced by new parents by allowing them to advance their $5000 tax credit; his personal experience as the parent to a young child; and why paid leave is a bipartisan issue. It's clear that making sure working families have the resources, flexibility, and support they need to care for their children isn't a Democratic or Republican value it's an American one. I'm proud to work across the aisle to find middle ground that moves this country forward, said Rep. Joe Cunningham. My son's birth was one of the most joyous moments of my life and every parent deserves to have that experience. Hardworking American families should not have that joy dampened by fears they won't be able to make ends meet if they take time off work. Earlier this month, Cunningham helped introduce bipartisan and bicameral legislation that provides resources to help new parents pay for leave and cover the cost of day care, baby supplies and other expenses associated with a new child, without raising taxes or creating new employer mandates. Yesterday, Cunningham voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference report that includes guaranteed paid parental leave for federal workers. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
