Rep. Joe Cunningham joined a bipartisan group of House colleagues to press Congressional leadership to bring a bipartisan COVID-19 relief deal to the House floor for a vote before the election. In a letter sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Cunningham expressed his concern about the status of negotiations and Congress' failure to confront the public health and economic crisis facing Americans. We were elected to represent the best interests of our constituents and the country, the lawmakers wrote. Our constituents' expectations in the midst of this crisis are that we not only rise to the occasion and stay at the table until we have delivered the relief they so desperately need, but also that we set aside electoral politics and place the needs of the country before any one region, faction, or political party. This comes on the heels of a bipartisan proposal to jumpstart COVID-19 relief negotiations that Cunningham helped introduce as a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, which established a number of areas of agreement between the two parties. The lawmakers argued that House leadership should support bipartisan COVID-19 relief legislation before the election. It has been suggested by some that Members of Congress are anxious to return to their districts to campaign in advance of the November 3rd election, even if that means leaving Capitol Hill without passing another COVID-19 relief bill, they wrote. We want to be very clear that we do not in any way agree with this position. You can view a copy of the letter online. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
