Congressman Joe Cunningham released the following statement after the announcement of final text of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): After months of tireless work, I am proud to support the USMCA. I have long been an advocate of getting this agreement across the finish line so that Lowcountry businesses and workers can have the market stability and trade certainty they need. This trade agreement is a win for the Lowcountry economy and America as a whole. Mexico and Canada are some of our nation's most important trading partners, and South Carolina exported $6.7 billion worth of goods to Canada and Mexico in 2018. Modernizing our trade agreement with our two closest neighbors is critical to maintaining good-paying jobs and economic growth in the Lowcountry. I look forward to voting with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make this agreement official. Cunningham previously called on House leadership to ensure a vote on USMCA before the end of the year. International trade is critical to the economic health of the region and to the livelihoods of thousands of Lowcountry families. That's why reestablishing a fair and consistent trilateral free trade agreement with the nation's top two trading partners - Canada and Mexico is a top priority for Charleston area employers. We welcome news that at a deal has been reached between the Trump Administration and Congressional leaders to move forward with the USMCA and hope to see bipartisan passage of a final trade agreement as quickly as possible, said Ian Scott, Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
