Tonight, The U.S. House of Representatives passed nine bipartisan pieces of legislation to help veterans and veteran-owned small businesses, including two bills introduced by Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC-01). The VA Tele-hearing Modernization Act, which will allow veterans to teleconference with the Board of Veteran Appeals regarding their benefit claims, and the Women Veterans Health Care Accountability Act, which directs the VA to conduct a study on access to care for women veterans and passed as a part of the Deborah Sampson Act, were introduced by Cunningham and passed with broad bipartisan support. Cunningham spoke on the House floor in support of the VA Tele-Hearing Modernization Act, saying, The VA Tele-Hearing Modernization Act is exemplary of the sorts of advances we can make when both parties come together for the sake of our veterans I urge all my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join in supporting this legislation for our veterans, who have sacrificed too much to be forced to jump through hoops for a fair hearing on their claims. Currently, the Board of Veterans Appeals only conducts tele-hearings from certain VA locations, meaning veterans have to travel to testify in support of their claims. In many cases, this forces Lowcountry veterans to drive to Columbia or Savannah. The VA Tele-Hearing Modernization Act would allow veterans to teleconference in to these hearings from the comfort of their own homes using their personal computers. Female veterans comprise the fastest-growing demographic in both the military and veteran population. The Women Veterans Health Care Accountability Act would determine the barriers to care that female veterans face and provide the data needed to make sure every woman has access to the quality care she has earned. As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, it's an honor to use my seat at the table to support Lowcountry veterans through legislative efforts like the VA Tele-Hearing Modernization Act and Women Veterans Health Care Accountability Act, said Rep. Joe Cunningham. Veterans have sacrificed so much to ensure our country remains strong and free, and supporting them should never be a partisan issue. I'm proud that Democrats and Republicans worked together to eliminate unnecessary barriers to the care and resources they have earned. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
