Ive always voted to fund the government because I think its the right thing to do, the responsible thing to do, but I think we need to take a stand, Curbelo said. Those of us who want to stand up for these young Americans. And I call them Americans, because even though theyre not documented, they grew up in our country, they speak perfect English, theyre working here, theyre productive, theyve gone to college, some of them want to serve in our military. So its time to say, Enough. Congress has been debating this Dreamer issue for 16 years, no action. So I think now is the time to say, lets get this done before we go home for the holidays. Lets give these young people and the country, the gift of making sure they can stay here for the rest of their lives. Curbelo also said, the closer Congress gets to the Presidents March deadline, it will become more and more difficult to get a good compromise. Curbelo first made the pledge last month, and has urged Leadership of both Chambers to bring any of the proposed solutions to the floor, including a letter with 33 other House Republicans to Speaker Ryan. He has also been working with the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus to try and find a broader immigration compromise that includes a permanent solution for DACA recipients.
