In Michigan, corporations got massive tax breaks while the state cut essential services for Flint families, including public safety and schools. State officials poisoned Flint because they were focused on making cuts, rather than providing safe drinking water to a community of 100,000 people. So I find it shameful that Republicans in Congress are now pushing this same failed governing philosophy with their tax bill, which is a scam for working families. The Republican tax bill raises taxes on tens of millions of middle class families in order to pay for huge tax cuts for the wealthy. It also explodes the deficit, asking our children and grandchildren to accept trillions of dollars in debt so that multi-national corporations and billionaires get more breaks. Their bill is fiscally irresponsible and immoral. As this bill moves to the Senate, I will continue to oppose any tax bill that raises taxes on middle class families.
