The Every Student Succeeds Act (S. 1177) was approved by the House with a vote of 359-64. I am proud to support a new direction in K-12 education for Americas students, educators and families, Congressman Scott said. The Every Student Succeeds Act will end the era of the No Child Left Behind Act by restoring local control of education from Washington. The bill ends high-stakes testing, repeals the burdensome Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) system and helps at-risk students. The Every Student Succeeds Act (S. 1177): Aims to reduce over-testing Gives states the autonomy to set academic standards and success measures Does not require states to implement or maintain Common Core Ends federal mandates on teacher evaluations Increases state and local reporting requirements to provide families and communities with more information about student and school performance. Provides formula funding for high need districts Provides more flexible use of federal funding for rural districts Incentivizes charter school accountability Uses multiple measures, beyond testing, to measure student learning and school success to determine school rating Provides dedicated funds for early learning. Will not alter or affect collective bargaining agreements. The measure is expected to be approved by the Senate and signed into law by the President.
