Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced his latest legislation to protect the rights of Americans from government overreach in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Vaccine Passport Prevention Act would, with limited exceptions, prevent federal agencies, state and local governments, and businesses from requiring Americans to present their vaccine card as a condition of accessing goods, services, or employment. By accepting federal coronavirus relief funds, state, tribal, and local governments would be banned from issuing vaccine passports or requiring proof of vaccination from those seeking services or employment. If enacted, the bill would allow individuals to sue private companies for discrimination if a business attempts to require proof of vaccination as a condition of engaging in lawful commerce. The bill allows for exemptions for medical facilities, enlisted servicemembers, and schools. However, educational institutions must provide exemptions for religious, conscience, and medical reasons – including recognition of naturally developed immunity. “The point of this bill is simple.” said Davidson after the bill’s introduction, “I’m committed to defending freedom. Freedom surrendered is rarely reclaimed, so now is the time to act. Americans have a right to keep their medical decisions private. Neither businesses, nor governments should compel access to confidential information as a condition of restoring our way of life. Discrimination that separates healthy people from other healthy people based on vaccine status is unconstitutional. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve seen states deny Americans a republican form of government in the name of public health. Now that the pandemic is over, they are trying to maintain power.
