Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH), a former Army Ranger, cosponsored the repeal and voted to officially end the use of military force in Iraq. “Americans widely recognize that our prolonged presence in Iraq has not made America more secure. As we see a welcome reduction in the number of troops in the Middle East, Congress should rescind the 2002 authorization, which has allowed multiple administrations to maintain a U.S. military presence that no longer bears any resemblance to the language of the authorization. The mission has changed, and so should the authorization. The current 2002 AUMF serves as a shackle to prevent those updates to align authorizations with missions and actions.
