The school will install a shooter detection system, key FOB access control, a wired and wireless panic button system, a paging system, a metal detector, 2-way radios, and lighting upgrades. The grant will fund 75% of all project costs. "Our communities know what is needed to secure our schools and the STOP School Violence Act was signed into law to fund projects like these. I'm proud to have worked to deliver the funding to make this grant program possible," said Congressman David Young. "It's my hope more schools in the Third District will take advantage of federal funding available to reduce violence in our communities." "This grant will allow us to build upon our thoroughly researched and collaboratively developed School Emergency and All Hazard Plan," said Creston Schools Superintendent Steve McDermont. "These funds will allow us to significantly upgrade our safety and security systems and to provide safe and secure learning environments for students and all other stakeholders in our schools." The STOP School Violence Actprovides funding for schools to purchase additional security measures to keep students and teachers safe, such as hiring a school resource officer or purchasing security equipment, such as locks, monitoring cameras, and metal detectors.
