This is the first step in the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) which aims to protect public health by regulating drinking water contaminants. Rep. Dean has been advocating for better stricter drinking water regulation that accounts for sensitive populations and children since she entered office. “I have been fighting alongside advocates for many years in hopes of seeing change like this,” Rep. Dean said. “Clean water is a right and I am incredibly glad and grateful that the EPA has made this decision – as we move forward we must be more mindful of what is flowing into our waterways.” The Safe Drinking Water Act is intended to regulate and address drinking water contaminants found in public water systems without placing undue burden on state, local, or tribal governments.
