The arts and humanities, regardless of medium, are an integral part of our communities and our society, with every exhibit or performance speaking to some intricacy of our human experience, said DeLauro. Arts and humanities funding helps to bring the beauty and creative genius of our culture to the lives of all Americans young and old, rich and poor, urban and rural. The fact that we as a society are willing to support such work is, to me, a measure of our civilization. We have strong and vibrant arts and humanities communities and these grants are a testament to all of their good work, continued DeLauro. I am proud to announce these awards and extend my sincere congratulations to all of those who make these programs, projects, and performances possible. National Endowment of the Arts awards include: Wesleyan University, Middletown - $25,000 To support the publication and promotion of books of poetry. Artspace, Inc., New Haven - $25,000 To support the exhibition "Artspace: Three Decades of Change" and accompanying public programming. Connecticut Players Foundation, Inc., New Haven - $10,000 To support the premiere of "Lewiston" by Samuel D. Hunter. New Haven International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Inc., New Haven - $40,000 To support the presentation of multidisciplinary artists and accompanying engagement activities. New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Inc., New Haven - $20,000 To support a commissioning and performance project of a new work by composer Hannah Lash. Yale University, New Haven - $25,000 To support "Early American Elegance," an exhibition and catalogue featuring Rhode Island furniture from the colonial through the early Federal periods (1650-1830).
