DeLauro D000216 delauro.house.gov delauro https://delauro.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper Image WALLINGFORD, CT—House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today joined Wallingford Mayor Bill Dickinson, Wallingford Housing Authority (WHA) Executive Director Kelly McDermott, WHA Chairman Nick Lombardi, WHA Vice Chairman Bob Wiedenmann, and the architect behind WHA's new developments and Principal at Silver, Petrulli & Associates David Stein to celebrate the House passage of $500,000 in Community Project Funding for Wallingford Housing Authority. DeLauro toured the new housing development located at 2 Wharton Brook Drive. This federal funding will be used to renovate the housing development, including replacing the kitchen and bathroom, installing new flooring and windows, and replacing heating and cooling units. Renovations will also be made to the exterior including installing a new roof, siding, entry and exit doors, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant entrances and walkways. "As Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, I am committed to meeting the needs of our communities in a transparent and accountable way, which is why I am so proud we have been able to secure $500,000 in Community Project Funding for the Wallingford Housing Authority in the House-passed 2022 spending bill," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "The improvements supported by this federal funding will further build a sustainable and prosperous community where residents enjoy a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment. As I toured the facility today, I met so many people who are deeply dedicated to ensuring that all Wallingford residents have access to the resources and support they need. Not only to live, but to thrive as members of the Wallingford community. I am passionate about this project. Investing in affordable housing units as well as much needed community space will support resident activities and help stabilize the neighborhood." "The 2 Wharton Brook Drive project is an opportunity to have immediate revitalization impact, through the cleanup of a long-term distressed site, and also increase access to housing opportunities and community housing resources," said WHA Executive Director Kelly McDermott. "WHA is excited and grateful for this funding opportunity," said WHA Chairman Nick Lombardi. "In a neighborhood that has three public schools with walking paths, community parks and ballfields surrounding this property, 2 Wharton Brook drive will be a significant revitalization project that will re-establish this community gateway as safe and inviting. This property has been the missing link in WHA's portfolio and represents our commitment to promoting safe communities and developing housing in areas of opportunity." Chair DeLauro led House Democrats in passing a package of spending bills with funding for community projects nationwide and historic investments in Connecticut, including $500,000 for Wallingford Housing Authority. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T20:17:01Z
