At the same time, he has aggressively led the effort to combat cross-border smuggling operations and improve border security through the deployment of advanced technologies and support for the frontline workforce. He has also pushed hard to relieve Border Patrol Agents from migrant processing duties so they can spend more of their time doing what they were hired to do – patrol the border. “It is unfortunate that Republican obstructionism has for decades stood in the way of opening up legal pathways for migrants to come to the United States to take jobs that U.S. employers are unable to fill. It is simply unjust for House Republicans to blame the Secretary – and by extension the DHS workforce – for problems that are being continuously perpetuated by Republican intransigence.
