DeLauro D000216 delauro.house.gov delauro https://delauro.house.gov/media-center/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON —Today, US Representative Rosa DeLauro, Representative Michael Rulli, the bipartisan co-chairs of the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD), along with Representative Panetta, Co-Vice Chair of the IACD, released a letter requesting that the Commerce Department pause implementation of proposed tariffs on pasta products imported from Italy. The new duties could raise total tariffs to more than 100% on certain Italian pasta imports. “While we fully support efforts to ensure a level playing field for American industries, we are concerned that these duties may cause more harm than good for Americans and America’s interests,” wrote the delegation. “They could cause further distress by raising costs for consumers and small grocers during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and removing familiar brands from store shelves. Moreover, Italy is one of America’s oldest and most steadfast allies. The bonds between our nations run deep through shared values, economic partnership, and the proud Italian American community that has enriched every aspect of American life. Within that community, concern is widespread that tariffs of this scale on a culturally valuable and economically important good that is uniquely Italian could harm a valued ally, disrupt a well-established trade relationship, and raise prices for millions of American consumers who enjoy authentic Italian products.” The IACD is a bicameral, bipartisan caucus committed to upholding and supporting the relationship between the United States and Italy. The IACD is composed of nearly 32 Members of Congress, many of which can trace their ancestry to Italy. The text of the letter is available here. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T19:52:45Z
