The City of Middletown recognizes the disastrous effects that the Trans-Pacific Partnership would have on our communities and I thank them for opposing a bad trade deal that will cost Americans jobs and lower wages. As the Common Council recognized by passing this bipartisan resolution, opposing TPP is not a Democratic issue, nor a Republican issue, it is an American issue. We cannot afford to enter into secretly negotiated trade deals with undemocratic countries that do not meet the rigorous standards we have established here at home.
