https://delbene.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1732 DelBene Marks Computer Science Education Week 2016-12-05 2016 2016-12 Democrat House WA Suzan DelBene D000617 delbene.house.gov     legacy Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) today marked the start of Computer Science Education Week, which provides students with computer science education opportunities, such as the Hour of Code. Ensuring all students have access to computer science learning opportunities is critical to preparing them for the careers of tomorrow, DelBene said. As a former entrepreneur in technology, I know the future of innovation in the United States is going to rely in part on talented coders getting engaged early on in their education. That's why it is so important that we expand access to next-generation learning opportunities through Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that in 2022, there will be roughly 10 million jobs in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Of those jobs, half are expected to be in computing and information technology. National Computer Science Education Week was established in 2009 to promote more opportunity for students to participate in computer science activities. DelBene and Rep. Susan Brooks (IN-05) introduced H.Res. 554, supporting the goals and ideals of Computer Science Education Week. And in September, DelBene helped introduce the Computer Science for All Act (H.R. 6095) to authorize $250 million to ensure all students can learn the critical computer science skills needed in the 21st century economy. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
