Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to repeal net neutrality rules that were put in place to protect consumers: America has been a world leader in innovation in large part because weve benefited from a free and open internet, but we wont remain at the top by adopting backward policies that hurt consumers, DelBene said. I strongly oppose the FCCs decision to fully repeal net neutrality and allow internet service providers to influence the content users can see. Given the opportunity, internet service providers could block content and services or charge premiums for the kind of open access weve come to expect. Theres no question that todays vote is a massive loss, both for consumers and for innovation. Today, the FCC voted to rescind the 2015 Open Internet Order net neutrality which has protected consumers from internet service providers blocking, throttling or prioritizing certain content and services for a fee.
