Wrote the team, we wanted to create an educational game, which would be entertaining for kids around elementary and middle school age. We believed that the topic of agriculture would be the perfect subject. We're trying to teach kids the steps farmers take to grow crops such as corn or carrots. The competition was judged by a panel of technology and software experts from Orange County, assembled by Rep. Demings' staff in Orlando. The Congressional App Challenge, conceived in 2013 and launched in 2014, is designed to inspire young peopleparticularly those from communities underrepresented in technology industriesto get involved and grow their skills. Rep. Demings is a strong advocate for youth involvement in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) fields. Said Rep. Demings, I'm proud to announce that A New Life, made by Edgewater High School students David Kelly, Nigel Smith, and Michael Wang, is the winner of 2018's Congressional App Challenge in the 10th District. I hope that David, Nigel and Michael will choose to continue their work in STEAM, and I know that all have a bright future. I'm particularly glad that David, Nigel and Michael set out to design an educational app appropriate for young children. Young people have a bottomless spring of curiosity and creativity. They need only the slightest nudge to get involved. As Central Florida grows as a leader in technology and innovation, it's up to us to cultivate a new generation of exceptional talent. Competitions like the Congressional App Challenge are a point of entry for young people to gain experience and new skills. Technology's impact on our lives will only continue to grow, and our children deserve the best possible chance to compete in the years ahead. Background The winning team will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for 12 months, starting approximately in April, as well as on the House of Representatives' website. In addition, each member of the team will receive $250 in promotional credits from Amazon Web Services and a travel voucher from Southwest airlines. The team of judges assembled by Rep.
