Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today issued the following statement applauding President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Marine Corps General James Mattis as Secretary of Defense: "General James Mattis is a great choice for Secretary of Defense and I applaud President-Elect Donald Trump for nominating him to lead the Pentagon. As a Marine with decades of impeccable service under his belt, General Mattis knows as well as anyone what it takes to build and maintain a strong and capable fighting force. His leadership as SECDEF is most welcome given the significant national security challenges that our country faces. Whatever waiver he needs to serve should be provided by Congress as soon as possible." | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
