Sincerely,Mark DeSaulnier Member of Congress LEGISLATIVE UPDATE House to Vote on Coronavirus Relief and Government Funding Today, the House will vote to provide much-needed coronavirus relief to individuals and businesses across the country, and fund the federal government through next September. Included in this $908 billion round of relief is: Up to $600 direct payments to individuals; An additional $300 per week in federal unemployment benefits; $25 billion for a first-ever federal rental assistance program; Billions in urgently needed funds to accelerate the free and equitable distribution of safe vaccines; $13 billion in increased SNAP and child nutrition benefits; $82 billion in funding for colleges and schools and $10 billion for child care assistance; More than $250 billion to revive the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for small businesses; and Protection for patients from huge surprise medical bills. While this package is an important step, Democrats in the House see this as a down payment for more support in 2021 in coordination with incoming President Biden. COMMITTEE UPDATE Mark Demands Answers and Accountability from Sackler Family and Purdue Pharma Since the launch of OxyContin in 1996, Purdue Pharma largely at the direction of the Sackler family has made billions off of contributing to the devastating opioid epidemic. Over the years, Purdue Pharma as a whole has been required to take some responsibility for the role it played in the opioid epidemic, but the Sackler family has been let off without even a slap on the wrist. To correct this injustice, Congressman DeSaulnier launched an investigation with the House Oversight Committee. Watch as we continue that important work by clickinghere or on the image below.
