Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chairman of the House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee, issued a statement after the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) published a notice in the Federal Register for a hearing concerning proposed revisions to the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. Despite being published on October 29, the notice contains an October 26 deadline for the public to register to participate in the hearing. Chairman Doggett offered the following comment: So interested in shutting down public participation, Trump sets a deadline to reply before notice is even given. He works to bury his wrongdoing from the public light. This proposal would remove important consumer protections that ensure any patients who, unfortunately, suffer from rare side effects after vaccination are appropriately compensated. Ignoring scientists and health professionals yet again, Trump seeks to remove two injuries from the program, despite unanimous opposition by the Advisory Commission on Childhood Vaccines. With this late hearing notice, Trump now ignores the public's opposition to the proposal.
