With computers available and FAFSA experts on hand, high school seniors and their families are invited to come complete the FAFSA form, which must be filed by January 15. As families and schools attempt to rebuild from the COVID slump in financial aid applications and college enrollment, the free, bilingual assistance for families at this workshop will help Central Texas families access aid and get seniors one step closer to affordable college enrollment. For this academic year, only 68% of students submitted the FAFSA, which is the lowest percentage recorded since Sallie Mae began its reporting in 2008. At the accompanying press conference, Rep. Doggett will highlight local resources for families filing the FAFSA before the January 15 deadline and will share details on the provisions he’s authored as well as related provisions in the Build Back Better Act to make Pell Grants entirely tax-free for students and improve coordination with the American Opportunity Tax Credit.
