I'm pleased to see these bills move through the House today. Congressman Doyle said. These bills are crucial to promoting the deployment of broadband to unserved and underserved areas. Accurate maps of who does and doesn't have access to broadband are a critical first step in closing the digital divide. We can't hope to solve this problem if we don't know the scope of it - and where to put our resources. "The FCC has been working with all of the stakeholders to fix our broadband maps, and today's bills would help to further those efforts. "I commend my colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Committee for their bipartisan work on these bills which would go far to help urban and rural Americans alike. H.R. 4229, the Broadband Data Improvement Act, would update the FCC's mapping process, establish a public challenge process, and require federal agencies to use the newly created broadband maps to determine the extent and availability of broadband in the United States. H.R. 4227, theMapping Accuracy Promotes Services (MAPS) Act, would make it unlawful for a person to submit inaccurate broadband coverage data to the FCC.
