Getting this Congressional Charter finalized ensures they receive the recognition they deserve. Senator Rounds’ leadership on this legislation was vital to its passage.” Johnson introduced legislation to create a congressional charter for the National American Indian Veterans in 2022 and 2023. U.S. Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) led identical legislation in the U.S. Senate. The NAIV Congressional Charter was signed into law in December 2023.
