Johnson introduced South Dakota State Senator and Majority Whip Helene Duhamel as the witness for his bill. More than 8,000 bills are introduced each Congress, and only a few hundred receive a committee hearing. Mount Rushmore has been the target of calls from activist groups, companies, and Hollywood elites to remove or rename the monument. Johnson’s bill would prohibit the use of federal funds to alter, change, destroy, or remove the likeness, the name of, or any of the faces on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
