The Furthering American Security by Tempering Environmental Regulations (FASTER) Act would require future administrations to maintain and enhance the border wall and border technology. “While House Republicans and President Trump have taken historic action to secure the border, there is no certainty that we won’t have another president like Joe Biden whose policies created chaos at the border,” said Johnson. “Regulations often delay the construction progress, but my bill removes that red tape, making sure every future administration acts swiftly to maintain a secure southern border.” The Furthering American Security by Tempering Environmental Regulations (FASTER) Act: Directs the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary to conduct a survey once every two years of the barriers at the southern border. The survey must include the number of miles without appropriate infrastructure and describe any deficiencies (damage, deterioration, or unmet maintenance or repairs) of existing tactical infrastructure or technology. After completing the biennial survey, DHS shall submit reports within 90 days to the House Committee on Homeland Security and Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs in an unclassified manner but may include a classified annex if deemed appropriate by the Secretary. Should the Secretary identify any deficiencies, the Secretary must utilize its authority to waive all environmental reviews and legal requirements to correct deficiencies in an expedited manner.
