Keith Ellison (D-MN) issued the following statement after Honduras electoral commission declared right-wing incumbent Juan Orlando Hernndez as the winner of the November 26 presidential election: Whats happening in Honduras is an affront to people across the world who believe in the rule of law and government accountability. The Honduran presidential election has been stained by repeated inconsistencies, flaws, and allegations of fraud so widespread, credible and severe that the Organization of American States has already determined that elections lacked integrity and has expressed serious doubts about the results. They are right, and the Honduran people are owed either a full recount of the vote or a new election. Additionally, our State Department has to make clear that we will not tolerate when aforeign government starts to crack down on nonviolent protest within its borders. 22 protesters have already lost their lives at the hands of state-sponsored violence in Honduras, and we in the United States have to speak clearly in denouncing that abuse of power.
