Since 2016, Emmer has held the YWLP, which connects high-school-aged girls with women leaders in a variety of professions from across Minnesota. This week’s session was focused on the field of mental health and featured remarks from Sue Abderholden, Executive Director of National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota, Dr. Lois Schlutter, owner of Schlutter & Associates LLC, Northern Integrated Health, Inc, and Professional Counseling Centers, Sara Johnstone, M.A., Ph.D., and Julia Messenger, School Social Worker in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. Emmer said, “The field of mental health care has never been more important, and there are an array of rewarding jobs available to young people who might be interested in pursuing a career in mental health.” “We were proud to connect this impressive class of young people with potential mentors in the field and are pleased to have facilitated another successful session of this wonderful program. As always, we are grateful to our guests and participants for making this program possible,” Emmer concluded. Topics of discussion included the continuing education required for a career in the field of mental health, work-life balance, and which parts of the field are still lagging in women’s representation.
