Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.), Congressman Brad Finstad (R-Minn.), and fourteen other U.S. House Republicans signed Stauber’s letter as well. “Another day, another Tim Walz failure. And once again, law-abiding Minnesotans are the ones forced to pay the price,” said Emmer. “Thankfully, the Trump administration is committed to holding Walz's feet to the fire for his inexcusable negligence, as are we.” “First, it was the rampant fraud schemes like Feeding Our Future and Housing Stabilization Services, where billions in taxpayer dollars were siphoned off, some even making its way to terrorists,” said Stauber. “Now, this administration is actively compromising the safety [of] drivers on our roads. This waste, fraud, and abuse must come to an end. Minnesotans and the American people deserve better.” Background In April 2025, President Trump issued an executive order directing the U.S. Secretary of Transportation and the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to audit all non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses issued by state agencies to identify irregularities. This audit uncovered a pattern of states illegally issuing licenses, and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy took swift action to implement a rule barring non-citizens from eligibility for CDLs. Minnesota’s illegally issued CDLs were provided to drivers whose presence in the United States was no longer valid, to drivers who were prohibited from holding a non-domiciled CDL, and to drivers whose lawful presence in the United States had not been verified by the state.
