In 2021, there were 32.5 million startups and small businesses in the United States, making up over 99% of U.S. businesses. These firms employed more than 61.2 million Americans, with three million of those jobs coming from startups under a year old. “Startups are an engine of innovation and opportunity, and their success has made America a global technology leader," said Emmer. “I am proud to serve as a Co-Chair of Congressional Startup Day and give a voice in Congress to the startup ecosystem.” Emmer has been a longtime advocate for startups. In November, he re-introduced the Main Street Growth Act, which would allow for the creation of specialized securities exchanges to improve access to capital for emerging growth companies.
