Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) released the following statement after President Obamas final State of the Union address: Much like the President tonight, I too am optimistic about the future of this country. But we have a lot of work to do. I am the father of seven wonderful children and they are the reason I am in office. So that their future - and the future of all children in this great country - is better than it was yesterday. This is exactly why my guest tonight was Dr. Daniel Bittman, Minnesotas 2016 Superintendent of the Year. He is working for the generation of tomorrow in Central Minnesota, and we need to be working for that generation of tomorrow in Congress as well. Tonight, after looking past the flowery rhetoric, there are a few things the President mentioned of which I absolutely agree. We must cut through the red tape and reduce the regulations hindering the daily lives of hardworking Americans. We must overturn the past 50 years of failed policy and lift the embargo with Cuba. And lastly, while we certainly differ on our opinions regarding the failed foreign policy in the Middle East, I believe that to truly win the war against the Islamic State we need to go above and beyond the authorization for use of military force and Declare War against the Islamic State.
