With thirty years of experience in law enforcement, he will be a staunch defender of President Trump’s efforts to crack down on the rampant crime and violence in Minnesota,” said Congressman Emmer. “As the former Sheriff for Anoka County, he knows the danger that violent criminals, gangs, and fraudsters pose to our communities. James has been a great friend and partner over the years, and I look forward to working with him as our new U.S. Marshal.” Background James Stuart served three terms as the 17th Sheriff for Anoka County from 2011 until 2023. He has extensive experience in law enforcement, including as the President of the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association and Vice President of the National Sheriffs’ Association. In January, 2024, Congressman Tom Emmer, Congressman Pete Stauber, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, and Congressman Brad Finstad formed a nominations committee to submit recommendations to President Trump to help fill the U.S. Marshal role. In October 2025, President Trump nominated James Stuart, one of their recommended candidates, for the position of the U.S. Marshal for the District of Minnesota. ### 1 2026-05-21T06:28:16Z 2026-05-21T06:29:43Z
