Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement on her vote against the national security appropriations minibus, H.R. 1158, which included funding for the Department of Homeland Security: No legislation is perfect and despite the fact that this legislation includes many priorities that I have advocated for on behalf of my community, it provides funding for abhorrent practices. I can't support legislation that legitimizes the unlawful and inhumane Remain in Mexico policy and gives President Trump a blank check. Many of the administration's policies reflect an un-American immigration agenda and practices that many of us believe are also unlawful. My vote was not a rejection of the work of Democratic appropriators but a rejection of the callousness and disregard of human dignity coming from the White House and Republican-controlled Senate. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
