https://escobar.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=819 Congresswoman Escobar Announces Over 93K Hardworking El Paso Families Have Benefited from the Expanded Child Tax Credit 2021-12-16 2021 2021-12 Democrat House TX Veronica Escobar E000299 escobar.house.gov escobar https://escobar.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27 scraper On the heels of the December Child Tax Credit payment, Congresswoman Escobar announced more than 93,000 hardworking El Paso families have received approximately $262 million in tax cuts this year through the expanded Child Tax Credit, according to new estimates from the Joint Economic Committee. Many of these families will see even more tax cuts when they file their taxes in the upcoming year. In Texas, an estimated 3.5 million hardworking families have received $9.5 billion in tax cuts in 2021. Nationwide, 90 percent of families with kids received the Child Tax Credit monthly tax cuts this year. “I am extremely proud of the work my colleagues and I have done to lift children out of poverty and ensure we put money back in the pockets of hardworking families in El Paso and across the country,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “As over 93,000 El Paso families receive this essential lifeline again, I strongly urge my Senate colleagues to pass the Build Back Better Act now to continue this progress that has benefited 173,000 children in my community and ensure no parent has to choose between medicine or food, diapers or formula and instead have the financial freedom necessary to provide for their children.” The American Rescue Plan, which Congresswoman Escobar voted for and President Joe Biden signed into law in March 2021, expanded the Child Tax Credit to up to $3,600 per child for children ages 0 to 5, and $3,000 per child for children ages 6 to 17 and authorized advance monthly payments of that tax cut beginning in July and running through December. The expansion of the Child Tax Credit has reduced childhood poverty by 40%, lifting millions of children across the country out of poverty. The House-passed Build Back Better Act extends this tax cut by one additional year, ensuring families do not have to choose between their basic necessities. This extension will help families cover the cost of food, housing, health care, and transportation and will continue the largest one-year reduction in child poverty in history.
