Evans said, "I stand by my vote for the House version of the Build Back Better Act, and I stand with President Biden. I proudly voted for the House bill that would cap the cost of insulin at $35 per month for most Americans, cap the cost of child care at 7 percent of income for many families, continue the Biden expansion of the Child Tax Credit and finally provide paid family and medical leave – something I pushed to include in the bill. "While I strongly disagree with Senator Manchin, he appears to be open to reworking the bill to focus on fewer programs but making them permanent, which would at least force Republicans to try to kill them proactively, something they tried and failed to do with the Affordable Care Act. That said, I still strongly prefer the House bill. "We must keep hope alive for progress. We have to deal with a 50-50 Senate, so the final product may not be exactly what I wanted, but there are more than 12 months left in this Congress and the opportunity is still there to make more progress for the people. We have passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, the $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and I think we can still get more done."
